At KUS, we’ve been manufacturing premium custom DEF tank assemblies for many years. As a leader in the industry, utilizing both rotomolding and blow molding techniques, we always manufacture our reservoirs to the highest standards. Now, we’re also offering off-the-shelf standard size DEF tank assemblies to give more customers access to our products.

The Importance of Proper DEF Storage

Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), also known by the brand name AdBlue®, is an after-treatment fluid designed to break down harmful pollutants in diesel engine emissions. Although DEF is nontoxic, nonflammable, and generally considered safe to handle, it can cause corrosion on most metals. To avoid this corrosion, it is necessary to store DEF in a specialized tank on board a vehicle.

A DEF tank is a container built to ISO specifications for the purpose of storing DEF. Most commonly manufactured from high-density polyethylene, these containers also include DEF level senders (headers) to accurately relay fluid level information to the vehicle user in accordance with EPA requirements and to provide appropriate thawing capabilities in cold weather.

Reasons to Consider a Standard Size DEF Tank

A standard size DEF tank provides several advantages to customers requiring a DEF storage container. The most significant benefits include:

  • Reduced tooling time and cost between manufacturing and sale
  • Time and money savings on design and validation
  • Shorter lead times for customers

Upon reviewing a customer’s intended application, installation requirements, and product availability, we can quickly begin production and ship these products out quickly. This streamlined process also removes back and forth communication necessary with a custom build.
